The Virginia Voices Project

Virginia Voices is the first state-specific, crowd-sourced film of its kind - a modern historical documentary woven from the video submissions of residents like us. It will premiere at the Virginia Historical Society's 500-seat Richmond theater, Fall 2014. It will play for several years accompanied by an online interactive experience and database where we can enjoy all our collected stories.

But first, we need your help making it. Here's how to participate:

1. Create Your Video.

Do you have a great story set in Virginia? But not sure what to shoot? Take inspiration from our current stories. Answering these four questions will help spur you on to your own, unique Virginia story.

  • What's your favorite place?
  • What's your family history?
  • What's in your backyard?
  • What are your hopes?

2. Submit your video online.

Once you have footage, upload it here. We’ll review and send you an alert when it’s posted to our social accounts. You’ll also be notified if it is included in the documentary or online experience. To avoid any legal issues, please have everyone who appears in your video sign a release form.

Ready, set, go make history.

Help us spread the word.

We need stories from every ridge and valley of Virginia. We can all help by submitting our own stories or asking our friends to participate. Share to your social sites.
